Podcasting Resources FAQ


Who provides the resources?

The resources are provided by the Western Australian Supercomputer Program - WASP.

What are the resources?

WASP offers an 8 core Mac Pro desktop computer for podcast production.
For podcast serving an X-Server is employed.

What softwares are available?

The operating system is Mac OS X - Leopard.
Garageband is available currently. Should you need more complex development environment, please contact us. Final cut pro may be available.

Who has access to the resources?

IVEC members only. Visit: www.ivec.org for more information about IVEC.

How much does it cost?

The services are free for IVEC members.

Booking

How to book the production facilities?

How do I understand the duration?

Add the duration to the nominated start time.

How long is 1.5 days?

The 1.5 days means 24 Hrs + 4 Hrs.

Can I extend a booking?

If the equipment is not booked after your session please put in another request starting from the previous end-time.

How does data storage and protection work?

The desktop machine has a dedicated partition called DATA to store your files during your session. Please DO NOT store anything on the System partition - it may be deleted any time WITHOUT WARNING. At the same time staff put every effort to preserve data on the DATA volume.
You may want to provide your own storage: USB, Firewire, Firewire-2, Network Attached Storage.

Staff may delete data from both computers when the session is over. Please back up your data to your own storage!

What about sensitive and confidential information?

If you are working with sensitive or confidential information please provide your own storage. WASP staff can not take responsibility for information left on these computers.

Podcast Serving

How do I submit my podcast?

If you are NOT an IVEC intern you need to request an account. Please visit:

If you ARE an IVEC intern please contact your program coordinator.

How long does it take to create an account on the server?

It takes a few minutes. Staff however have many other tasks. It usually takes a day to attend the job.

Does WASP create the podcast if I provide the script?

WASP provides production services from advice to full production. Please contact Akos Bruz: akos@wasp.uwa.edu.au.

Does WASP create a webpage for my podcast?

No. Most of our clients have strict rules about branding. WASP staff can not be involved in such webpage creation. WASP provides the production services and facilities only. Your department/faculty would have a marketing section looking after the website. Please contac them.

How fast is the network?

It is a 10 Gbit network.
