Environment on marron
This section describes the user environment,
shell, operating system, etc.
Upon login, you are presented with a shell prompt on the login node. The login node mounts two critical directory. The first is /ufs/home where all the user home directors are kept and the second is /lus/nid000xx the lustre file system which is the high speed storage. Users are encourage not to store their results/data permanently on the lustre file system. Results should be copied into your personal home area in /ufs/home. If you require more storage, please contact help@ivec.org for a storage account. Use sftp or scp to transfer your data from local machine to marron. Secure ftp and scp is required for secruity reasons. If you need to transfer large amount of data, it is advisable to contact support@wasp.uwa.edu.au to discuss your requirements before transferring as you maybe charged for extensive network usage.
The default user shell in marron is tcsh. However, users are allowed to change their shells to suit their application and jobs requirements. The login node on marron has 64bit SLES 9 installed which provide all the common linux utilities and tools for marron users. |
