WASP/iVEC network & Computer Abuse Policy

The Western Australian Supercomputer Program computer systems are vital to the scientific community, and we have a responsibility to ensure that these systems are utilized in a responsible manner. The term computer systems in this case refers to all computers owned or operated by WASP and includes hardware, data, software, and communications networks associated with these computers. Improper use of WASP systems is generally referred to as computer abuse.
Users of WASP's systems are subject to applicable Western Australia laws. Computer abuse will be referred to the WASP User Services manager and/or the appropriate local, State and Federal authorities, at WASP's discretion. Furthermore, WASP may terminate or restrict any user's access to its computer systems, without prior notice, if such action is necessary to maintain computing availability and security for other users of the systems.

WASP/iVEC network & Computer abuse includes, but is not limited to:

  • using, or attempting to use, the center's computer systems without prior authorization or for unauthorized purposes
  • tampering with or obstructing the operation of the computer systems, or attempting to do so
  • inspecting, modifying, distributing, or copying privileged data or software without proper authorization, or attempting to do so
  • supplying, or attempting to supply, false or misleading information or identification in order to access the WASP's computer systems
  • Broadcasting the WASP/iVEC network on any wireless device. The WASP/iVEC network will not be used as a wireless access point to any network on iVEC and the internet.

If there is any doubt regarding the legitimacy or authorization of any action, contact WASP at support@wasp.uwa.edu.au.
